"This little gem in Ashover had everything and more! Beautiful place to stay, which was fully equipped, lush towels, bedding and pillows, comfortable seating area, and a spacious warm wet room. The cottage is very well planned and laid out, the views stunning, the walks a dream and the 3 pubs welcoming and interesting. The hosts were lovely people, thank you for our 4 days in your little gem."

"The Retreat is small but beautifully formed. We had a wonderful week there and enjoyed the lovely view from the living room, lots of the suggested walks and trips to the many attractions which are in easy reach. The kitchen and wet room were both very successful and we slept well. Elaine and Ian gave us a most useful welcome pack and the local pubs had excellent food when we couldn't be bothered to cook. It was perfect."

"Thank you Ian and Elaine for a superb weekend in your wonderful cottage. The property is so well appointed and everything is of a high quality. It is immaculate, cosy and set in a delightful village. Everyone was friendly. Such a great base - as near to some great attractions and lovely walks. We are certainly going to stay again! Highly recommended."

"We have just returned from a 3 night 'Retreat' for our first anniversary and didn't want to leave! It is a beautifully renovated, quirky upside down cottage with fabulous views. Everything is finished to perfection and there wasn't anything that wasn't provided. We had planned on visiting Matlock but after arriving on friday, we didn't use the car again. The information pack in the cottage has some detailed walks in it of which we did two, despite a bit of little drizzle (and a whole lot of mud!) The views you get on your way round are just beautiful. We ate at the two local pubs 'The Black Swan' and 'The Old Poet's' and both were lovely. The live band on the friday was great and the locals were very friendly. Our hosts, Ian and Elaine couldn't have been more accomodating. Full of information and leaving a lovely welcome pack on arrival. You could spend hours just watching the birds and squirrels feasting on their seeds and nuts from the 6 feeders on the tree in the garden of Ian and Elaine's house, all from the comfort of the sitting room. It really is a little bit of heaven away from the hustle and bustle of city life. We will definitely be recommending to family and friends and will be back for our second anniversary (if we can wait that long!)"

"The Retreat is fantastic. Everything we could of hoped for. Ian showed us around on arrival and pointed out the nice little bits that make a difference when you've had a bit of a journey. Fresh milk, bread and eggs so that was our breakfast sorted for our first morning. The cottage itself is new and stylish and ticked every box for us. Thankyou."

"Totally agree with previous comments. A beautifully presented and appointed retreat. Good info about the area; we have really enjoyed the local walks (and the local pub's!)". (Keith and Isabel, Lincoln, 10/7/2013)
"We have enjoyed our stay at The Retreat, it has been a comfy and relaxing place to be. The views and beautiful, pub food - great with friendly greeting from the villagers, but it has gone 'sooo' quick! Many thanks, hope to be back soon.'
